I don't know who Gerald W. Johnson was or is, but he said a smart thing, quoted on today's NPR On The Media show.
Nothing changes more constantly than the past; for the past that influences our lives does not consist of what actually happened, but of what men believe happened
Its been also said that if we fail to learn from the past, we are doomed to relive it.I believe, in my humble opinion, that we are re-living Vietnam. As a capitalistic society, we will continue this way until it is no longer profitable. Every attempted world conquerer has said that they went to war to unify the world, when all they were looking for was wealth. The Romans, German, Japaneese, all used war as an attempt to build up their country from financial and political woes.
ReplyDeleteThe past hasn't changed, we, in our ignorance and greed have tried to manipulate it.
