SEXY TV

Am I a dirty old man? Oops, don't answer that. A better question: Am I seeing sex where it isn't? Am I way off base in finding fully 75 percent of TV programming sexually provocative, bordering on soft porn and half of the commercials just as sexy?

  1. TV sure has changed since I watched a lot of it, and it's been more than 25 years ago since I swore off. I remember watching 15 minutes of some office show (Dharma & Greg?) that was on before a show I really wanted to watch (ER is about it), and my jaw hung open, I swear. So vulgar, but somehow a lot more funny that the "Stifle, Dingbat!" stylings of Norman Lear.

Ads . . . last semster I was in McDonald's for a salad. Yes, a salad, and a cup of tea. And was totally scandalized by a sandwich board ad in Spanish for a chicken snack wrap. It showed a masculine fist grasping a tubular snack wrap as if it were a scepter. "Agárrelo" ("Grab it") was the caption, I think. Or maybe "grab one" instead. "Pollo," of course, is Spanish for chicken, and has the the same secondary meaning as here in the U.S. when we refer to throttling poultry (I can't just come out and say it, can I?)

Not only that, but the description of the chicken wrapped by the warm, soft tortilla was enough to make anybody's ears turn red, especially when one knows that "tortilla" is also a very vulgar word for the feminine anatomy.

In fact, I think they just thought up this Spanish ad and invented a product to go along with it. That ad was NASTY.

I checked McDonald's Mexico web site to see if I could find an image of that ad, but just got locked into a godawful FLash page that blared the current south-of-the-border McDonald's jingle, which is a full-length pop anthem about celebrating all the good things in life at the altar of McDonald's. It would have been very approriate sung by a minor Christian rock star in a megachurch, with people in the audience swaying and clapping and stomping their feet.

Anyhow so much for hot torilla on pollo action. Below is a link to another boner that McDonald's has pulled. And it is very vulgar, so don't say that I didn't warn you.
