Funny Dutch Names

Was there really a local nurse whose last name was Enema? Could I make up something that good? Maybe. Jim Bakker, the infamous TV evangelist is from this town. I suppose it was originally pronounced "Bokker." A Dutch friend told me Robert Schuller, who went to Hope College in Holland, Michigan, changed the pronunciation from the Dutch "Skuller."
But the best one of all is Ms. Baade. I worked with her for a while. It's pronounced like "body." Oh yeah. She reminded me of Julie London.

  1. Be carefull. You are heading down the dame road as, Jimmie the greek snyder, Rush Limbaugh and Don Imus. These are people who made remarks about other races. I am Dutch, and am offended by these remarks. Maybe Rev. Sharpton and Rev. Jackson will jump to my defense. My luck is that the only person who will jump to my defense is the little boy who stuck his finger in the dike, or Queen Whelhemena. Words describing Dutch people as, tight, slow, and.... wait, I guess it true. I have a funny last name. I am tight with my money, so tight it slips through my fingers and into others. O my gosh, I really am Dutch. It took me that long to figure out I was Dutch, so I must also be slow. Thanks Cliffe, now I have to go through the day remembering I am Dutch. I thought it was just Alzhiemers, now I have to live with the Knowledge that I am Dutch. O Well, as a wise men once said "If you're not Dutch, you're not much." This guy couldn't be Dutch, he is toooo smart.

  3. Thank you Dadderz and Etaoin for reacting. I haven't offended anybody since I called Thelonious Monk a jazz pianist that most Americans had never heard of. A firestorm ensued. Please know I am visting Holland, Michigan next week. Not to look at Tulips but to use a service that will contribute a couple hundred bucks to that town's economy. Will that help? One more thing. Had you seen Ms. Baade, you would compliment me on my appreciation for Dutch women.
