Hear it or Read it?

A local friend who has heard me do public speaking commented that as he read the previous post, he imagined hearing me say it. Very interesting. How many of us are strongly spoken word oriented? I certainly am. I would rather hear it than read it.

  1. I wish I had managed to wean myself off visuals after growing up in front of the tube. It is easier for me to grasp what I can read (and re-read); but I prefer listening to (or hearing, rather) the spoken word. I often read novels and stories aloud, which gives me a fuller sense of experiencing them, of living them and giving them life.

For folks like me, who cannot be all ears, there is comfort in the thought that the language of radio is worthy of that awkward paradox "oral literature," being that it is first scripted, then spoken.
