Ethel on a VCR

I am about to watch that wonderful Ethel Waters film, "Cabin in the Sky" again. One of my thrift store VCRs recorded it for me while I was away. Yes, I actually enjoy the challenge of programming those primitive machines. I wonder how many of the young pups who are so quick at texting and tweeting could do that.

  1. I sure miss the old VCR, Clifton. I've got a pile of movies I neither watch nor replace. Somehow, the digital transferring never worked, at least not properly or as advertised on the box.

When I first watched Cabin in a college film class, I was confused and irritated by its all-black cast. I called it "Uncle Tom's Cabin in Disguise." Perhaps I was just overly politically correct, but I sort of agreed with Manny Farber who referred to the film as “well turned decorations on something which is a stale insult.” I haven't seen it since; now I could make a few radio connections, of course.
