Fathers Day

Few men, maybe none, are quite the father that their wives wish they were. Is that cynical? I hope not. Male and female parenting needs are different. That's one of the thousand and one things you need to know before you cohabit and make babies. If I were a premarital counsellor I would remind the couples of that. But they probably wouldn't listen.

  1. So what are "female and male parenting needs"? You didn't offer an example.

My perception is that when the kids are babies, the mother is far and away better equipped to do the lion's share of duties, not least of all because guys just don't make milk. Later on, fathers can and should step up.

As usual, I find your opinion too cynical. I could not imagine a better father than my own husband. He really had nothing much to do when our son was really little, but now his role has grown enormously since I've begun workaday pursuits. He's a model of patience and is loath to send Teeder to kindergarten because he'll miss him next year.
